“Gone Too Soon: 8-Year-Old Virginia Larins Hollis Remembered After Tragic Guadalupe River Flood”

With broken hearts and unfathomable grief, we share the devastating news of the passing of Virginia Larins Hollis, the beloved 8-year-old daughter of Lars Hollis, a cherished and respected member of our HP family. Virginia’s young life was tragically cut short when she was among those swept away during the catastrophic July 4th floods on the Guadalupe River in Central Texas.

There are no words strong enough or tender enough to ease the anguish of such a loss. Virginia was a radiant child—bright-eyed, joyful, compassionate, and full of the fearless curiosity that defines the spirit of childhood. Her laughter had a way of lighting up the room. Her kindness and empathy touched classmates, friends, teachers, and neighbors alike. Though only eight years old, Virginia made a lasting impression on everyone she encountered, and the world feels a little dimmer without her in it.

A Light Taken Far Too Soon

The floods of July 4th came swiftly and violently, leaving destruction in their wake and grief in the hearts of countless families. Virginia, along with others, was caught in the sudden surge of floodwaters while enjoying a family holiday in what should have been a day of joy and celebration. Despite tireless rescue efforts, she could not be saved. Her body was recovered in the days following, a moment that marked one of the darkest in our shared memory.

Remembering Virginia

Virginia loved art, nature, music, and her friends. She had an infectious energy, a deep love for animals, and a natural ability to care for others—traits that reflected the values her family lovingly instilled in her. Whether crafting handmade cards for her teachers or chasing butterflies in the garden, Virginia brought beauty and innocence into every space she entered.

As a daughter, she was the shining star of her father Lars’s life, a bond so deep it could be felt by all who knew them. The love and pride Lars held for Virginia was evident in every conversation, every photograph, and every story he shared. Their connection was profound, and her absence leaves a void that cannot be filled.

Honoring Her Life

The HP family stands united in mourning with Lars and all who loved Virginia. In the coming days, we will share more about how we will celebrate her life and support her family during this unimaginably difficult time. Plans for a memorial service and ways to honor Virginia’s memory will be communicated as soon as they are finalized.

In the meantime, we ask that you continue to hold the Hollis family in your hearts and prayers. For those who wish to offer support, a fund has been established to help cover memorial costs and to provide resources for the family as they grieve.

In Grief, In Love, In Memory

We are left with sorrow too vast to measure, but also with the precious memories of a little girl who brought immense love and light to the world during her short time here. Virginia’s spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew her, in the values she embodied, and in the impact she made—no matter how young she was.

Rest gently, Virginia Larins Hollis. You were and will always be dearly loved.
