It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we share the sudden and heartbreaking loss of John Rosa, a cherished member of our Green County Humane Society (GCHS) family.
John was more than a volunteer—he was a cornerstone of compassion within our organization. He served as a dedicated foster parent, a former Board Member, and, above all, a beloved friend. His selfless service, unwavering commitment, and deep love for both animals and people left an imprint that will never be forgotten.
Over the years, John opened not only his heart but his home to animals in need, often taking in the most vulnerable pets and giving them a second chance at life. Whether bottle-feeding kittens at midnight, patiently nurturing a shy rescue dog, or lending his voice in boardroom discussions about the future of the shelter—John gave all of himself, every time.
His compassion wasn’t limited to the four-legged. John had a unique ability to connect with people from all walks of life, bringing warmth, sincerity, and humor into every conversation. He was someone you could count on—dependable, kind, and always willing to help. The staff, volunteers, and fellow board members at GCHS have lost not only a colleague but a true friend.
As we mourn the loss of such a remarkable soul, we also extend our deepest condolences to John’s family, friends, and all who had the joy of knowing him. The grief is shared across our community, and though words feel insufficient, please know that John’s legacy will live on in every life he touched—animal and human alike.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date, where we will gather to remember, honor, and share stories of this incredible man who gave so much and asked for so little.
In honor of John’s legacy, we invite you to carry his spirit forward in small, meaningful ways.
Snuggle a cat.
Pet a dog.
Check on a friend.
Be a light in someone’s darkness.
John Rosa believed in kindness, in second chances, and in the healing power of love and companionship. The world is undoubtedly better because he was in it—and it is now our turn to carry that torch forward, for him.
Rest in peace, John. Your legacy of love and compassion will forever live on at GCHS and beyond.
