Bath Township, MI — An officer-involved shooting is currently under investigation after a dangerous and rapidly evolving situation unfolded in Bath Township on Saturday, July 12, 2025, resulting in multiple emergency responses, a hostage situation, and the eventual apprehension of a stabbing suspect.
At approximately 2:27 p.m., officers from the Bath Township Police Department were dispatched to the 6000 block of Heathfield Drive near Pine Hollow Drive in response to a trespassing call. The initial report described a suspicious individual walking through private yards and attempting to break into vehicles. The caller also indicated that the suspect had entered a neighbor’s garage and then disappeared from view.
Soon after the first call, Central Dispatch received a second report from a nearby resident on Nichols Road in the 16000 block, stating that he had been stabbed by an unknown intruder who had entered his home. The situation quickly escalated into a potential threat to public safety.
Responding officers entered the Nichols Road residence and encountered both the victim and the armed offender inside. The suspect was holding the resident hostage, with a knife held to the victim’s throat. Officers began verbal negotiations in an effort to defuse the tense confrontation. Moments later, the offender released the victim and fled out a side door of the home, still armed with the knife.
Officers issued multiple verbal commands for the suspect to stop, but he fled toward the Meadows neighborhood. As the suspect ran, both officers discharged their service weapons. The suspect then forced entry into another home on English Oak Drive, locking the door behind him. Unaware of the break-in, the homeowner was inside. Hearing the officers yelling and trying to breach the door, the resident opened it and was safely evacuated. The resident did not know the suspect had entered the home.
Shortly after officers gained entry into the residence, the suspect fled once again—this time toward a neighboring home, where he attempted to enter the garage. At that moment, one officer discharged his firearm. Officers quickly caught up with the suspect and, after a brief physical altercation during which a TASER was deployed, he was taken into custody.
Police on the scene immediately rendered medical aid to the suspect and called for emergency medical services. He was transported to UM Health – Sparrow Hospital, where he is currently listed in stable condition.
All victims involved, including the stabbing victim and residents impacted by the home invasions, were treated at the scene. No officers were injured during the incident.
In accordance with departmental protocol, the officers involved have been placed on administrative leave while the incident is under independent investigation by the Michigan State Police. All available video footage, including officer body cameras, is being reviewed. A critical incident briefing video will be made publicly available in the coming days to provide transparency and a clearer timeline of events.
Authorities believe the situation is fully contained, and there is no continued threat to the community at this time.
