Heartbreaking Update: In Loving Memory of Katherine Ferruzzo

It is with the deepest sorrow that we share the devastating news that Katherine Ferruzzo has been found. After days of tireless searching and fervent hope, her body was recovered on Friday, bringing a tragic close to a chapter filled with anguish, prayer, and love.

Katherine, just 18 years old, was the final Camp Mystic counselor still unaccounted for following the severe flooding in the region. A recent graduate of Memorial High School, she had her eyes set on an inspiring future at UT Austin, where she planned to study to become a Special Education teacher.

Those who knew Katherine describe her as someone who radiated warmth, strength, and quiet courage. Her final moments, we’ve learned, were spent exactly as she lived—caring for others. Katherine had been watching over the young girls of the Bubble Inn cabin, fulfilling her counselor duties with heart, compassion, and an unwavering sense of purpose. Her loved ones say she had a fierce, loving spirit, and those who saw her in action knew how deeply she believed in making a difference, even in the most challenging circumstances.

Katherine was more than a counselor. She was a role model, a nurturer, a friend, and a hero. Her kindness ran deep, and her desire to serve children with special needs was not just a career goal — it was a calling. In her honor, a foundation is being established to continue her dream: to support and uplift children with disabilities, carrying forward the mission she held so close to her heart. Details on this foundation will be shared in the coming days.

This loss is immense, and it comes at a time when many families are still searching for answers. Five campers remain missing, and our prayers continue with their families and all those involved in rescue and recovery efforts.

To the Ferruzzo family, our hearts are with you. Words cannot ease this sorrow, but may you find strength in the immense love surrounding Katherine and the legacy she leaves behind.

To the community: Please keep sending your prayers, your support, and your condolences. Let Katherine’s memory inspire us to live with compassion, give selflessly, and protect one another—just as she did.

Rest in peace, Katherine Ferruzzo.
You were brave, beautiful, and beloved.
Your light will never fade.
