Afternoon Shooting Claims the Life of 37-Year-Old Greeley Resident, Mario Luis Castillo

GREELEY, Colo. – July 16, 2025 A tragic act of violence unfolded in Greeley on Wednesday afternoon, claiming the life of 37-year-old Mario Luis Castillo, a longtime resident of the city. The incident occurred just after noon, at approximately 12:22 p.m., when officers with the Greeley Police Department responded to reports of a shooting at 817 26th Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers discovered Mario with severe and obvious gunshot wounds. They quickly began administering emergency medical aid while waiting for paramedics to arrive. Mario was rushed to North Colorado Medical Center, but despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

The Weld County Coroner’s Office later identified the victim as Mario Luis Castillo and has since notified his family.

The shooting appears to be an isolated incident, with no ongoing threat to the public, according to law enforcement. As the investigation continues, detectives are actively pursuing leads and gathering evidence to determine what led to the deadly encounter.

“This is a heartbreaking loss for Mario’s family and our community,” said Detective Collin Losasso, who is leading the investigation. “We are doing everything we can to bring answers and justice to those affected.”
