HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION IN GREENVILLE, MISSISSIPPI

Greenville, MS – July 16, 2025- A tragic shooting in Greenville has resulted in the death of 27-year-old Gervonte Johnson and the arrest of his younger brother, 21-year-old Santwan Johnson, who faces murder charges.

On the evening of Wednesday, July 16, at around 9:00 p.m., officers from the Greenville Police Department responded to a call reporting a shooting at a residence located on the 700 block of Cotton Drive. When officers arrived, they found Gervonte Johnson lying in the hallway of his home with an apparent gunshot wound to the chest.

Emergency medical personnel transported Gervonte Johnson to Delta Health Systems, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Following the incident, investigators charged Santwan Johnson, Gervonte’s 21-year-old brother, with murder. Santwan Johnson is currently held at the Washington County Regional Correctional Facility, awaiting his initial court appearance. Authorities have not released details regarding the motive or circumstances leading to the shooting, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Officials remind the public that Santwan Johnson is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
