JACKSONVILLE, AR – July 18, 2025 — A tight-knit community in Jacksonville is grieving after De’Andre Gooden, a local resident, was shot and killed in a disturbing act of violence at Dupree Park on Thursday evening.
The Jacksonville Police Department responded to reports of a shooting at the park, located at 1700 South Redmond Road, near the playground area, at approximately 6:32 p.m. on July 17.
While officers were en route, they discovered a black passenger vehicle that had crashed at the intersection of West Main Street and T.P. White Drive. Upon investigation, it was determined that the driver — later identified as 26-year-old De’Andre Gooden of Jacksonville — had been shot during the incident at Dupree Park. He had attempted to flee the scene by vehicle but ultimately crashed due to his injuries.
De’Andre Gooden was transported to a nearby hospital where, despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries.
Shooting Near Playground Shocks Community
The shooting has sparked outrage and sorrow throughout the Jacksonville community. Dupree Park is a popular destination for families, joggers, and community events, making the fact that this incident occurred so close to the playground area particularly alarming.
“This could have been anyone’s loved one,” said a local parent who frequents the park with their children. “This isn’t just another crime story — this is someone’s son, someone’s friend, and it happened in a place where our kids play.”
Investigation Continues
At this time, the Jacksonville Police Department has not released information regarding any suspects or potential motives in the killing of De’Andre Gooden. Detectives are continuing to process the scene, canvass for witnesses, and review any available surveillance footage from the surrounding area.
The police have made it clear that they are pursuing every lead and have called on the public to assist in the investigation.
“This case remains open and active,” the department said in a statement. “We urge anyone with information, no matter how small it may seem, to come forward. Justice for De’Andre Gooden depends on community support.”
