Ivanhoe, CA – July 17, 2025 – A wanted suspect is dead and a Tulare County detective is recovering from injuries following an officer-involved shooting Thursday afternoon in Ivanhoe, after a high-risk attempt to apprehend a man accused in a recent violent crime.
According to the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office, around 12:00 p.m., investigators with the County Apprehension Team Tracking Criminals in Hiding (CATTCH) located a 33-year-old male suspect wanted in connection to a July 7th attempted homicide that also occurred in Ivanhoe.
The suspect, whose identity has not yet been officially released pending family notification, was tracked to the Oakwood Apartments, located in the 15800 block of Avenue 327. When detectives approached to execute the arrest, the situation escalated dangerously.
As officers attempted to take the man into custody, the suspect opened fire. In response, detectives returned fire while retreating from the apartment unit. Law enforcement immediately called for backup and deployed a drone into the apartment to assess the interior without further risking officer lives.
Inside, the drone located the suspect unresponsive. Deputies quickly moved in and began life-saving measures until medical personnel arrived on scene. Despite efforts, the suspect was later pronounced deceased.
One Tulare County detective suffered a minor, non-life-threatening injury during the exchange and has since been treated and released from care.
In an effort to ensure transparency and accountability, Sheriff Mike Boudreaux has requested that the Visalia Police Department take over the investigation into the officer-involved shooting. The investigation remains active, and authorities have not released additional details regarding the number of rounds fired or whether any bodycam or surveillance footage is available.
Community members in Ivanhoe expressed both concern and relief following the incident. While the loss of life is always tragic, many residents say they are grateful no bystanders or additional officers were hurt and hope the incident brings a close to what has been a tense and dangerous chapter for the neighborhood.
Anyone with information related to this case, or with potential video footage, is encouraged to contact the Visalia Police Department or Tulare County Sheriff’s Office as the investigation continues.
More details will be released as the case unfolds.
