TENNESSEE — A shocking and violent scene unfolded inside a Walmart store on Saturday when an unidentified man, believed to be homeless, launched a biting attack that left six people injured—one of them critically.
The suspect, who has not yet been named by authorities, entered the store in a disoriented state around midday. Witnesses said he appeared to be “in a daze” and possibly living on the streets. What followed was a chaotic and deeply disturbing episode that left shoppers and staff reeling.
A Violent Encounter with Only His Teeth
According to eyewitness Rachel Stephenson, who was shopping at the time, the man wandered aimlessly into the store, looking detached and unstable. When approached by a Walmart employee, he suddenly lunged and sank his teeth into the worker’s arm.
“As soon as the employee got close, he attacked and bit down hard,” Stephenson recalled. “Another man tried to help, and the suspect turned and bit him right in the neck. There was blood everywhere. It was terrifying.”
Stephenson also said the man’s teeth looked unusually sharp, almost like “fangs,” and that his behavior was completely unhinged. “Every time someone tried to stop him, he lashed out and bit them.”
Customers Step In—and Get Bitten
Three more individuals—two customers and a second employee—attempted to restrain the attacker. All were bitten in the process. Eventually, with help from several bystanders, they managed to bring the man down and restrain him using belts and nearby items until law enforcement arrived.
In total, six people were bitten. One victim, who was bitten in the neck, was transported to the hospital in critical condition due to a severed artery. The remaining victims are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Suspect in Custody, Identity Unknown
The suspect, who remains unidentified, was taken into custody and transported to a Tennessee psychiatric hospital for evaluation. Authorities have not yet determined whether drugs or other substances played a role in the violent outburst. He carried no identification, and his name has not been released.
A Community Left in Shock
The attack has sent shockwaves through the local community, raising concerns about safety, mental health care, and public awareness.
“This is something you’d expect in a movie, not in real life,” said one customer. “It was a nightmare—he was growling, biting, and just wouldn’t stop.”
Local police praised the courage of those who stepped in to protect others. “Had it not been for the brave actions of several customers and store employees, this could have been even worse,” an officer said.
Investigation Ongoing
Police are now working to confirm the suspect’s identity and determine what led to the attack. Authorities are reviewing surveillance footage and asking for the public’s help in identifying the man. For now, no charges have been filed pending the outcome of his psychiatric evaluation.
