Birmingham Police Department and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Arrest Murder and Assault Suspect

BIRMINGHAM, AL (July 19, 2025) — The Birmingham Police Department (BPD), in collaboration with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, has successfully apprehended a suspect wanted in connection to the murder of Cameron Little and the shooting of an adult female victim. The suspect, identified as 21-year-old De’Aerius Johnson, was taken into custody without incident on Saturday, July 19, in the 3000 block of 15th Street Ensley.

Incident Overview:

On the night of Wednesday, July 16, 2025, shortly after 11:30 p.m., BPD East Precinct officers were dispatched to the 100 block of 84th Street North after a ShotSpotter alert indicated multiple rounds had been fired. Upon arrival, officers discovered Cameron Little lying unresponsive in Eastlake Park, suffering from a gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived shortly thereafter and pronounced him deceased on the scene.

In addition to Little, an adult female victim was also struck by gunfire during the incident. She was transported via private vehicle to UAB Hospital, where she was treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

Arrest & Charges:

After a detailed investigation, Birmingham Police Homicide detectives presented the case to the Jefferson County Magistrate’s Office, which subsequently issued arrest warrants for:

  • Murder
  • Assault in the First Degree

The warrants were issued for De’Aerius Johnson, a resident of Birmingham. On July 19, the BPD Crime Reduction Team, with the assistance of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, located and apprehended Johnson. He is currently being held at the Jefferson County Jail with No Bond.
