13-Year-Old Jalen Brown Killed in Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-75 in Madison County

RICHMOND, Ky. (July 21, 2025) — The Kentucky State Police (KSP) Richmond Post is actively investigating a fatal multi-vehicle crash that occurred on Sunday, July 20, 2025, on northbound Interstate 75 near mile marker 83 in Madison County.

Preliminary findings indicate that traffic had slowed significantly in the area when an International commercial motor vehicle (CMV), operated by David Turner, failed to reduce speed and collided with the rear of a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado. The Silverado was being driven by 33-year-old Rico Brown of Berea, Kentucky.

The impact from the collision propelled Turner’s CMV into a nearby guardrail before striking a 2024 Ford F-350 towing a recreational vehicle, operated by Steven Wohlscheid. As a result of the chain-reaction crash, the Silverado was pushed forward and struck the rear of a 2021 Freightliner CMV operated by Justin Hill.

Victims Identified:

  • Rico Brown was transported to the University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
  • A juvenile passenger in the Silverado, identified as 13-year-old Jalen Brown, was taken to Baptist Health Richmond, where he later succumbed to his injuries. He was pronounced deceased by Madison County Coroner Jimmy Cornelison.

Investigation Ongoing

The investigation is being led by Trooper Tyler Holt, with assistance from multiple agencies, including the Madison County EMS, Madison County Fire Department, Madison County Sheriff’s Office, and the Madison County Coroner’s Office.

The Kentucky State Police extends its deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones of Jalen Brown during this profoundly difficult time. Further updates will be shared as the investigation progresses.
