In Loving Memory of Supervisor Bob Weir: A Devoted Leader, Husband, Father, and Public Servant

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we share the passing of Prince William County Gainesville District Supervisor Bob Weir, who died on Sunday, July 20, 2025, after a courageous battle with metastatic colon cancer. His loss marks a significant moment of mourning for the entire Prince William County community, where Bob’s presence, leadership, and integrity left an indelible mark.

Bob was much more than an elected official—he was a beloved husband, father, neighbor, and steadfast public servant who dedicated his life to serving others. A proud graduate of the University of Virginia, Bob spent the majority of his life in the Commonwealth of Virginia and proudly called the Gainesville District his home. Alongside his wife of 34 years, Diane, Bob raised three wonderful children—Sam, Michael, and Megan—instilling in them the same values of hard work, humility, and service that defined his own life.

Bob’s journey in public service began at the local level, serving as a member of the Haymarket Town Council, where he quickly earned a reputation as a thoughtful, principled, and community-focused leader. His ability to bring people together, ask the tough questions, and advocate for what was right—not simply what was popular—distinguished him throughout his career.

When elected to the Prince William Board of County Supervisors, Bob brought that same spirit to the larger stage. He was known for his no-nonsense approach, unwavering commitment to transparency, and laser-sharp focus on the everyday needs of his constituents. Bob believed deeply in the power of good governance to improve people’s lives. He never sought the spotlight but instead worked quietly, diligently, and with purpose—always ensuring that the voices of Gainesville’s residents were heard and respected.

Among his many accomplishments, Bob was especially respected for his work in constituent services. He made it a personal mission to respond to residents’ concerns, listen with compassion, and pursue solutions with determination. Whether it was a zoning issue, infrastructure concern, or neighborhood safety matter, Bob believed that no issue was too small if it mattered to the people he served. His constituents didn’t just see him as a politician—they saw him as a neighbor, an ally, and a friend.

Bob Weir’s death is an immeasurable loss to Prince William County. His absence will be deeply felt by colleagues, community leaders, and citizens alike. Yet, his legacy of quiet strength, ethical leadership, and tireless service will live on in the roads paved, the bridges built—both literal and figurative—and the many lives he touched through his decades of public service.

As we mourn his passing, we also honor his life—a life defined by purpose, humility, and dedication.

The Weir family has requested privacy as they navigate this time of deep grief. In the coming days, information regarding memorial services and opportunities for the public to pay tribute to Supervisor Weir will be shared.

Prince William County stands united in remembrance of Bob Weir—a true public servant, a man of honor, and a champion for the people.

Rest in peace, Supervisor Weir. Your leadership, compassion, and legacy will not be forgotten.
