Police Seeking Information After Gunfire Strikes Home in Whitby

WHITBY, ON — Authorities are asking for the public’s help after a troubling shooting incident took place early Monday morning in a quiet Whitby neighborhood. The Durham Regional Police Service is currently investigating after gunshots were fired at a residence near Maria Street and Annes Street on Monday, July 21, 2025, around 7:10 a.m.

Officers from the Central West Criminal Investigations Branch responded to the scene after a homeowner discovered multiple bullet holes in their front door. Upon arrival, investigators located several shell casings in the area, confirming a firearm had been discharged. Fortunately, while residents were inside the home at the time of the shooting, no one was physically injured in the incident.

The disturbing event has left local residents shaken, and police are working diligently to identify those responsible. Investigators believe the shooting occurred in the early morning hours and are appealing to the public for assistance in gathering evidence.

Police are specifically requesting that anyone with information, witnesses, or surveillance footage — including dashcam or home security video — covering the area between Gilbert Street West and Newman Crescent, from Annes Street to Frances Street, between 12:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m., come forward.
