Shooting in Village of Sloan Leaves Toddler Injured; Shannon Rose and Marcus Oluwa Jr. in Custody

SLOAN, N.Y. — A shooting incident on Lackawanna Avenue in the Village of Sloan on Sunday has left a 2-year-old child injured and two individuals — Shannon Rose and Marcus Oluwa Jr. — facing serious criminal charges. Authorities say the shooting stemmed from a confrontation between the two adults and resulted in gunfire that tragically struck an innocent toddler.

Shannon Rose, 19, of Buffalo, was taken into custody at the scene immediately following the shooting. According to investigators, Rose is believed to have been the only individual who fired a gun during the altercation. After careful review and consultation with the Erie County District Attorney’s Office, Rose has been charged with Assault in the Second Degree and Criminal Possession of a Firearm. He remains in custody awaiting arraignment.

During the exchange, a 2-year-old child, who was not involved in the confrontation, was hit by gunfire. The child was quickly transported to Oishei Children’s Hospital, where they are currently listed in stable condition. The identity of the child has not been released at this time, and the family has asked for privacy.

The second person involved in the confrontation, 20-year-old Marcus Oluwa Jr. of Lackawanna, was located later with the help of the Buffalo Police Department and New York State Police. He was found in the City of Buffalo and arrested without incident. Oluwa now faces charges of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree.

Officials say that while both Shannon Rose and Marcus Oluwa Jr. were involved in the confrontation, only Rose is believed to have discharged a firearm. The motive behind the altercation remains unclear, and the investigation is ongoing. Law enforcement continues to review surveillance footage, interview witnesses, and gather evidence to determine the full sequence of events.

“This is a heartbreaking case where an innocent child was injured in an act of violence between two adults,” said a representative from the Cheektowaga Police Department. “We are doing everything possible to bring those responsible to justice and support the family impacted by this tragedy.”

Community members have expressed shock and concern over the incident, especially given the young age of the victim. Police are urging anyone with additional information to come forward and contact the Cheektowaga Police Department.

As the investigation continues, both Shannon Rose and Marcus Oluwa Jr. remain in custody facing charges that could carry significant legal consequences. The community now turns its attention to the recovery of the young victim and the pursuit of justice for those involved.
