Two Killed in Fiery Crash on US 84 in Lubbock: Victims Identified as Jinmei Gao and Jia Jin Wu

LUBBOCK, Texas — The Lubbock community is grieving after a tragic single-vehicle accident on Saturday morning claimed the lives of Jinmei Gao, 64, of Flushing, New York, and Jia Jin Wu, 18, of Lubbock. The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) reported that the fatal crash occurred around 7:23 a.m. on the US 84 North Frontage Road, about a mile northwest of Mimosa Avenue.

According to the preliminary investigation, Jinmei Gao, who was behind the wheel, was driving northwest on US 84 before exiting onto the North Frontage Road. As she approached a sharp curve, the vehicle failed to navigate the turn, continued straight off the road, and crashed into a stationary railcar on nearby tracks. The impact was devastating, and the vehicle caught fire shortly after the collision.

Both Jinmei Gao and Jia Jin Wu, the passenger, were pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained in the crash. DPS stated it remains unclear whether either individual was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident.

Authorities confirmed that Jinmei Gao was a licensed driver from New York who was visiting the area. Her life, remembered as one of hard work and selfless dedication to her family, ended tragically far from home. Loved ones recall her kind demeanor and unwavering commitment to those around her.

Jia Jin Wu, a bright and compassionate 18-year-old from Lubbock, is being remembered as someone with a gentle spirit and a promising future.
