It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the untimely and tragic loss of one of our own, Paramedic Cody Satterfield. Cody’s passing has sent shockwaves through the entire emergency medical services (EMS) community, and left an irreplaceable void among all who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside him.
Cody began his EMS journey with Johnson County EMS (JCEMS), where he quickly became more than a colleague—he became family. His drive to serve, to make a difference, and to help those in their most vulnerable moments was evident from the very beginning. Those early days laid the foundation for a remarkable career built on compassion, courage, and tireless dedication.
Throughout the years, Cody extended his service far beyond Johnson County, working in multiple agencies across East Tennessee, including Hancock County EMS and most recently Sullivan County EMS. At every stop, he made a lasting impact. Whether responding to emergencies, mentoring a new recruit, or simply being a comforting presence to those in crisis, Cody exemplified what it truly means to be a paramedic.
He wasn’t just a skilled clinician—Cody was a teacher, a guide, and a natural leader. His passion for educating the next generation of EMS providers was matched only by his warmth and humility. Many who have donned the uniform in recent years have done so with Cody’s influence, his lessons, and his encouragement lighting their way. He took pride in shaping the future of emergency medicine, and those he mentored carry a piece of his legacy in every call they answer.
Cody’s impact was not confined to the ambulance bay or the classroom. He was a friend, a brother, a confidant. His smile was infectious, his spirit uplifting, and his presence comforting even in the darkest of moments. He was the calm in the chaos, the strength in the storm, and the heart of every team he served.
In the wake of this heartbreaking loss, we extend our deepest condolences to Cody’s beloved family, to his many friends, and to the countless EMS professionals who had the honor of working beside him. We recognize that this loss is not only personal—it is deeply felt by every community he served, every life he touched, and every person who saw firsthand his unwavering commitment to saving lives.
As we grieve together, let us also honor Cody by continuing the work he loved. Let us lift one another up in this difficult time, support our fellow EMS brothers and sisters, and keep Cody’s spirit alive through the compassion, excellence, and selflessness he exemplified every day.
Rest easy, Cody. Your legacy lives on in the hearts of those you’ve helped, the providers you’ve trained, and the communities you’ve served. You will never be forgotten.
End of Watch, but not the end of your impact.
