MSP Investigating Fatal Crash at Stetson Intersection Involving Tractor-Trailer and Dump Truck

STETSON, Maine — A tragic and violent two-vehicle collision claimed the life of Scott Webber, a longtime resident of Glenburn, and left another man, Peter Omweno of Denton, Texas, seriously injured on Wednesday afternoon, as the Maine State Police (MSP) continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding a fatal crash at the intersection of Lapoint Road and Merrill Road in Stetson.

The crash was reported at approximately 1:09 p.m. on July 23, 2025, prompting a multi-agency emergency response and leading to a prolonged road closure in the area. Preliminary findings from MSP investigators indicate that a tractor-trailer unit, fully loaded and driven by Peter Omweno, was traveling north on Lapoint Road when it failed to stop at a posted stop sign and entered the intersection with Merrill Road. As a result, the tractor-trailer collided with a fully loaded dump truck traveling eastbound on Merrill Road, driven by Scott Webber, 64, of Glenburn.

The impact of the crash sent Omweno’s tractor-trailer into a utility pole, causing it to snap and collapse onto the truck. The dump truck overturned onto its passenger side, sustaining heavy damage.

Victims Identified

Peter Omweno, 39, sustained serious injuries and was transported to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, where he is undergoing treatment. His condition has not been released publicly.

Scott Webber, a 64-year-old professional truck driver with deep ties to his community, suffered critical injuries and tragically died en route to the hospital. He is remembered by family and friends as a man of great integrity, hard work, and generosity — a true pillar in the Glenburn community.

Due to the magnitude of the collision and the presence of downed power lines, the intersection was shut down for several hours. The emergency response was coordinated by multiple agencies and organizations, including:

  • Hermon Fire and Rescue
  • Bouchard and Sons Towing
  • Central Maine Power Company (CMP)
  • Hopkins Milling and Paving

CMP worked diligently to safely handle the downed utility infrastructure, while fire and rescue crews secured the scene and assisted with the transport of the victims.

Investigation Ongoing

Authorities will assess factors such as road conditions, vehicle speed, signage visibility, and potential driver error. No citations or charges have been issued at this time, but the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage from the area is encouraged to contact Maine State Police Troop E.
