ST. MARTIN PARISH, La. — A tight-knit Louisiana community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of a young life after a tragic accident claimed the life of Da’Marion Lagrange, a 16-year-old teen from Breaux Bridge, in the early morning hours of Wednesday, July 24, 2025.
According to the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office and Louisiana State Police, the fatal collision occurred just before dawn on Louisiana Highway 347, a two-lane roadway known for frequent traffic at all hours. Preliminary reports indicate that Da’Marion was traveling on an electric scooter when he was struck by a passenger vehicle under circumstances that remain under active investigation.
Emergency personnel responded swiftly to the scene following 911 calls from passing motorists. Upon arrival, first responders located the teen lying on the roadway with critical injuries. Despite their efforts, Da’Marion Lagrange was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the car involved remained at the scene and is said to be cooperating fully with authorities.
A Life Cut Short
Da’Marion’s sudden and tragic passing has left the Breaux Bridge community in shock. Friends, teachers, and neighbors describe him as a kind-hearted, respectful, and energetic young man with a bright future. A student at Breaux Bridge High School, Da’Marion was known for his love of sports, his infectious smile, and his dream of one day attending college.
“He had a light about him that just couldn’t be dimmed,” said one of his teachers. “This loss hits hard — not just for his classmates, but for every heart he touched.”
Social media has since been flooded with tributes from classmates and friends, many of whom are struggling to come to terms with his death. A candlelight vigil is being planned at the local park where Da’Marion used to hang out with friends, and counselors have been made available at his school for students and staff.
Investigation Underway
Authorities are working to determine the exact cause of the collision, including visibility conditions at the time, the presence of lights or reflectors on the scooter, the speed of the vehicle involved, and whether any external factors contributed to the crash.
Louisiana State Police have emphasized that no citations or arrests have been made at this time, and toxicology results are pending for both the driver and the teen, which is standard protocol in fatal accidents.
“We want to make sure we get it right,” said a representative with LSP Troop I. “This is about honoring a young life and ensuring that the facts are presented clearly and respectfully. Our hearts go out to the Lagrange family.”
The accident has also reignited conversations around road safety and the dangers of operating small, low-visibility vehicles like electric scooters, particularly during nighttime or early morning hours. Community leaders are urging increased awareness and consideration for local ordinances surrounding scooter use on highways and poorly lit roads.
A Community in Mourning
As word spreads of Da’Marion’s death, an outpouring of love and support has emerged for the Lagrange family. Neighbors have begun leaving flowers, notes, and candles near the scene of the accident. Local churches have offered to assist the family with funeral arrangements, and a GoFundMe campaign is reportedly being organized to help cover memorial expenses.
“It’s moments like this that remind us how fragile life is,” said one community member. “Da’Marion had his whole life ahead of him, and now all we can do is remember him and support his family in this unimaginable time.”
The funeral date and arrangements have not yet been announced, but the family has asked for continued prayers and privacy as they process the devastating loss.
