In Loving Memory of Michael and Debbie Carman: A Community Mourns the Loss of the Beloved Abide Ride Owners

The tight-knit mountain communities of Conifer, Pine, and Bailey, Colorado are mourning the tragic and heartbreaking loss of two cherished neighbors, Michael and Debbie Carman, owners and operators of the well-loved Abide Ride Burrito Truck. Known for their warmth, dedication, and delicious breakfast burritos that powered many early morning commutes into Denver, Mike and Debbie were more than just local business owners — they were part of the fabric of this community.

On the morning of July 21, 2025, while on a routine supply run to restock orange juice ahead of a busy day, Mike and Debbie’s lives were forever altered. They were traveling southbound on Highway 285 near the Hwy 8/Morrison Road exit when they were struck head-on by a wrong-way driver speeding northbound in the southbound lanes at an estimated 100 miles per hour. The reckless actions of this driver resulted in a multi-car collision and unimaginable devastation.

Emergency responders from the West Metro Fire Department arrived swiftly and worked tirelessly to rescue the couple, having to cut through the mangled wreckage to free them from their vehicle. Tragically, Michael Carman was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at the hospital, despite extensive lifesaving efforts. His wife, Debbie Carman, was rushed to the ICU in critical condition, where she was surrounded by the love of her family and the prayers of an entire community. Sadly, Debbie succumbed to her injuries, passing away with their only son, Austin, by her side.

A Legacy of Love, Community, and Service

Mike and Debbie were known not only for their popular food truck, but for their humble generosity, unwavering faith, and genuine kindness. The Abide Ride wasn’t just a business — it was a place of comfort and familiarity for early risers, parents on the go, and workers starting their days. Mike and Debbie brought joy with every burrito, every cup of coffee, and every smile they offered from their window.

Their love for each other and their community was evident in all they did. Customers weren’t just customers — they were friends, and often became like family. The Carmans modeled what it means to live with purpose, hospitality, and heart.

Supporting Austin and Honoring Their Memory

The loss of both parents in such a tragic and sudden manner has left Austin Carman, their devoted son, with not only unimaginable grief but an enormous responsibility. In the midst of this heartbreak, Austin has bravely shared his desire to keep the Abide Ride Truck going, honoring his parents’ dream and continuing the legacy they built together.

A fundraising effort is now underway to support:

  • Memorial and funeral expenses for Michael and Debbie Carman
  • Medical bills associated with the tragic accident
  • Emotional and financial support for Austin as he processes this life-altering loss
  • Efforts to keep the Abide Ride Burrito Truck running in their memory

If you are able, please consider contributing to this effort. No donation is too small, and every share, prayer, and gesture of support is deeply appreciated.

Remembering Mike and Debbie

Mike and Debbie Carman were the very definition of what makes a small-town community so special. They were faithful, hardworking, and full of grace. Their absence leaves a gaping hole in the hearts of many — from loyal customers to lifelong friends.

As we reflect on the joy they brought to so many, we invite everyone who knew them to share memories, stop by the truck when it reopens, and keep their legacy alive. Let us continue to abide in love, in service, and in community — just as Mike and Debbie did every single day.

Rest peacefully, Michael and Debbie. Your light will never be forgotten.
