Joliet, Illinois – July 25, 2025 – The Joliet Police Department has announced significant developments in the ongoing investigation into a 2022 fatal shooting that claimed the life of a 16-year-old boy and injured a 13-year-old. Angel Magana (20, Joliet) and Latrell Woodall (20, Joliet) have been formally charged and arrested in connection with the case.
Both Magana and Woodall have been charged with:
- First Degree Murder (3 Counts)
- Attempted First Degree Murder (1 Count)
- Aggravated Battery (1 Count)
Details of the Latest Arrests
On July 24, 2025, Joliet Police Detectives secured arrest warrants for both Magana and Woodall after identifying them as additional suspects in the shooting that occurred nearly three years ago on September 5, 2022, in the 1800 block of McDonough Street.
- Angel Magana was apprehended by Tactical Officers during a traffic stop in the area of Cherry Hill Road and Ellis Road during the afternoon of July 24. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility.
- Latrell Woodall, who was already incarcerated on unrelated charges, was formally served with his arrest warrant at the Will County Adult Detention Facility on the same day.
Joliet Police Chief Bill Evans praised the determination of investigators:
“The arrest of these additional suspects is a major step forward in our department’s pursuit of securing justice for those affected by violent crimes. Our hearts remain with the victim’s family, and we extend our deepest condolences. Original Incident: September 5, 2022
At 11:18 PM on the night of the incident, Joliet Police officers were dispatched to the 1800 block of McDonough Street following multiple reports of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers located two male juveniles, ages 16 and 13, who had been struck by gunfire while walking through the area.
- The 16-year-old victim sustained a life-threatening gunshot wound and was immediately given medical aid by officers until emergency medical personnel from the Joliet Fire Department arrived. He was transported to Ascension St. Joseph Medical Center, where he was later pronounced deceased.
- The 13-year-old victim suffered a graze wound and was also transported to the hospital for treatment.
Police quickly secured the scene and launched a comprehensive investigation, canvassing the area for witnesses and evidence.
Initial Arrest in the Case: Eleuterio Roman
The first major breakthrough in the case came in April 2023, when detectives arrested Eleuterio Roman (20, Joliet). Roman was charged with:
- First Degree Murder (3 Counts)
- Attempted First Degree Murder (1 Count)
- Aggravated Battery with a Firearm (1 Count)
Following an exhaustive investigation, Roman was identified as a suspect. Detectives obtained an arrest warrant on March 28, 2023, with a $10 million bond issued by a Will County Judge. Roman was arrested at the Will County Courthouse by the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force on April 6, 2023.
Investigation Continues
Though major arrests have now been made in this case, the investigation remains open. Detectives continue to gather evidence and explore the possibility of additional individuals being involved.
