RICE LAKE, WI – July 26, 2025 — In the early morning hours of Saturday, Rice Lake Police Officers, working alongside Deputies from the Barron County Sheriff’s Department, responded to an address within Barron County in an attempt to apprehend Axel Miranda-Rosado, a man wanted on multiple serious charges. Miranda-Rosado was being sought in connection with numerous felony-level domestic violence offenses, and he was also the subject of a federal arrest warrant issued by the U.S. Marshals Service for weapons-related violations.
Upon their arrival, law enforcement personnel attempted to make contact with Miranda-Rosado. However, he fled the scene and disappeared into a nearby cornfield. Despite a thorough search, officers were unable to locate him at that time.
Later that morning, shortly before 9:00 a.m., Sgt. Thon of the Rice Lake Police Department spotted Miranda-Rosado again, this time within the city limits. Officers observed him exit an apartment complex riding a bicycle. Sgt. Thon gave verbal commands for him to stop, but Miranda-Rosado refused to comply and attempted to flee. A foot pursuit ensued after Miranda-Rosado ditched the bicycle and fled on foot.
Law enforcement quickly established a perimeter between a roadway and a river, closing in on the suspect’s last known direction of travel. Upon the arrival of additional deputies, officers issued multiple verbal commands, urging Miranda-Rosado to surrender. Despite these efforts, he continued to hide and refused to comply.
At that point, K9 Kash was deployed to assist in the search. The highly trained police dog conducted a methodical sweep of the area and successfully tracked Miranda-Rosado’s scent to the riverbank. Surrounded and facing the presence of K9 Kash, Miranda-Rosado peacefully surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident.
Thanks to the coordination between multiple law enforcement agencies and the decisive action of both human and K9 officers, a dangerous individual with both local and federal charges was brought into custody safely. The incident highlights the continued dedication of law enforcement professionals in Rice Lake and Barron County to protecting their communities.
Authorities have not released further information about the specific charges against Miranda-Rosado, but he is currently being held pending further investigation and legal proceedings.
The Rice Lake Police Department commended the teamwork displayed during this operation, especially the efforts of Sgt. Thon, the deputies on scene, and K9 Kash for helping bring about a peaceful and effective resolution to a high-risk situation.
