KIDDER COUNTY, ND – July 25, 2025 — A devastating three-vehicle collision on North Dakota Highway 3 has left two individuals dead and one seriously injured, casting a somber cloud over Kidder County. The fatal crash occurred at approximately mile marker 126, a stretch of highway that has now become the site of an active and ongoing investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
According to preliminary reports from law enforcement, the tragic sequence of events began when a Pontiac G6, traveling southbound in the northbound lane, sideswiped a Chevrolet Equinox that was heading north. The impact of the sideswipe caused the Pontiac to become airborne, ultimately crashing into an oncoming Dodge Challenger also traveling northbound.
The crash’s violent impact resulted in both the driver of the Pontiac G6 and the driver of the Dodge Challenger being ejected from their vehicles. Tragically, both individuals were pronounced deceased at the scene by emergency personnel. Their identities have not yet been released, pending family notification.
Miraculously, the driver of the Chevrolet Equinox escaped without injury, despite being the first vehicle involved in the sequence of collisions. Meanwhile, a passenger in the Dodge Challenger sustained serious injuries and was rushed from the scene by both ground and air ambulance to a nearby medical facility for urgent care. Their current condition has not been disclosed.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol has launched a full-scale investigation into the crash. Authorities are working to determine what may have caused the Pontiac G6 to enter the wrong lane of travel — a critical question at the center of the investigation.
