West Melbourne Tragedy: Gregory and Mary White Fatally Shot by Grandson Jeremyah Campbell

WEST MELBOURNE, FL – A horrifying act of violence rocked the quiet community of West Melbourne on the evening of July 23, 2025, as 83-year-old Gregory White and 81-year-old Mary White were fatally shot in what authorities describe as a domestic incident involving their own grandson, 22-year-old Jeremyah Campbell.

At approximately 8:45 p.m., deputies from the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, along with local police officers, responded to a 911 call regarding a shooting at a residence in the area. Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered Gregory White and a female neighbor, whose identity has not been officially released, both suffering from gunshot wounds. The victims were quickly transported to a local hospital, where Gregory White was pronounced deceased. The female neighbor remains hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Deputies subsequently entered the Whites’ residence and found Mary White unresponsive. Tragically, she was pronounced dead at the scene from gunshot injuries.

According to initial reports, Gregory White had fled to a nearby neighbor’s house after Mary White was shot. He told the neighbor, a woman believed to be in her 60s, that his wife had been shot and he needed help. As the two entered the home, the gunman — later identified as Jeremyah Campbell, the couple’s grandson — allegedly followed and opened fire again, striking both Gregory White and the neighbor.

Investigators believe Jeremyah Campbell had arrived at the Whites’ home just days before the shooting. The motive remains unknown at this time.

Law enforcement launched an immediate search for Campbell, and within an hour, he was located nearby and taken into custody without incident. Following an investigation and the issuance of an arrest warrant by Judge Kim Musselman, Jeremyah Campbell was officially charged with the following offenses:

  • Two counts of Second-Degree Murder (for the deaths of Gregory White and Mary White)
  • One count of Attempted Second-Degree Murder (for the shooting of the neighbor)
  • One count of Shooting into an Occupied Dwelling

He was transported to the Brevard County Detention Center, where he is currently being held without bond.

The investigation is being led by Agent Vince Bustillo of the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit, who urges anyone with additional information related to this incident to contact him at (321) 617-7306.
