Young Man Fatally Shot in South Minneapolis Following Late-Night Altercation

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — A tragic act of violence in the early hours of Saturday has left a young man dead and a community shaken. According to the Minneapolis Police Department, a man in his 20s succumbed to gunshot wounds after a shooting near 24th Street East and 18th Avenue South in the city’s southside.

Just before 1 a.m., officers from the Third Precinct responded to multiple reports of gunfire in the area. Upon arrival, they discovered the victim suffering from at least one life-threatening gunshot wound. Officers quickly administered emergency medical aid until paramedics arrived on scene. The victim was then transported to Hennepin Healthcare, where he was later pronounced dead despite extensive life-saving efforts.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the shooting stemmed from a verbal argument that escalated into violence. The suspect reportedly fled the scene before police arrived. As of this morning, no arrests have been made and the shooter remains at large.

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara issued a somber statement regarding the incident:

“Gun violence has claimed another life, devastated another family and further traumatized a community. We are urging anyone with information to come forward. Every life lost to violence is one too many.”

Detectives are now working tirelessly to piece together the sequence of events that led to the deadly confrontation. Crime scene investigators canvassed the area overnight, and police are encouraging residents and businesses in the neighborhood to check their surveillance footage for anything suspicious that may assist the investigation.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased after notifying next of kin, as well as the official cause and manner of death.
