BREAKING: Suspect in Scottsboro Officer-Involved Shooting Taken Into Custody

SCOTTSBORO, Ala. — A tense manhunt that gripped the Scottsboro community for much of the day has come to an end. At approximately 9:55 p.m., authorities confirmed that Daniel McCarn, the suspect wanted in connection with the officer-involved shooting that occurred earlier this morning, has been taken into custody without further incident.

Details surrounding McCarn’s arrest have not yet been fully released, but law enforcement officials have assured the public that there is no longer an active threat. Officers had spent the day conducting an extensive search across Scottsboro and surrounding areas following the early morning shooting that left one officer injured.

The incident began early Friday morning when officers with the Scottsboro Police Department attempted to make contact with McCarn in relation to an ongoing investigation. During that interaction, McCarn allegedly opened fire, wounding one officer before fleeing the scene on foot. The injured officer was transported to a local hospital, where they are currently being treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Their name and current condition have not yet been released to the public.

The shooting set off a full-scale manhunt involving local, state, and federal agencies. Residents in several neighborhoods were advised to shelter in place throughout the day, as heavily armed tactical teams, K9 units, and aerial support scoured the area for McCarn. Authorities described him as armed and dangerous and asked the public to avoid engaging with or approaching him.

At 9:55 p.m., nearly 14 hours after the initial shooting, law enforcement confirmed that McCarn had been located and safely apprehended. It is currently unclear whether he surrendered peacefully or was taken into custody after a standoff or confrontation.

The Scottsboro Police Department, along with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, are expected to release more information about McCarn’s arrest, charges, and the circumstances of the shooting in the coming hours.

In the meantime, Scottsboro officials and community members have expressed relief that the search has ended and that no further injuries were reported during the pursuit. Many are also rallying around the injured officer, offering prayers and well wishes for a full and speedy recovery.

“We are grateful for the coordinated effort and dedication of every agency involved in safely bringing this dangerous situation to a close,” said one Scottsboro official. “We’re especially thankful for the quick medical care our officer received and for the support shown by the community throughout this difficult day.”

This is a developing story. Authorities have stated they will provide additional updates as soon as more details become available regarding the arrest of Daniel McCarn, the suspect in today’s officer-involved shooting in Scottsboro.
