TULSA, Okla. — A Saturday evening took a terrifying turn for one Tulsa family after a young child was struck by a stray bullet during a shooting near 4600 North Boulder Avenue. The incident, which occurred around 8:50 PM on July 25, 2025, has left the community shaken and police actively searching for the person or persons responsible.
According to the Tulsa Police Department, officers responded swiftly to reports of gunfire in the quiet residential area. When they arrived on scene, they were met with the harrowing reality: a 3-year-old boy had been shot in the leg while outside near his family’s home.
Initial investigations indicate that multiple gunshots were heard coming from a residence to the north of where the child was playing. Witnesses reported a sudden burst of gunfire that pierced the evening calm. The boy’s grandfather, who had been in the front yard at the time, recalled hearing the shots ring out just before his grandson’s cries broke the silence. Rushing to the child’s side, he discovered a wound on the boy’s leg — a grazing injury, later confirmed to be caused by a bullet. He also noticed a bullet hole in his Jeep, further evidence of the chaotic and dangerous nature of the shooting.
The boy’s grandmother, who had been sitting in her car nearby, immediately jumped into action upon hearing the screams. She rushed to her grandson’s aid and dialed 911. Emergency responders, including EMSA and the Tulsa Fire Department, arrived quickly and treated the child at the scene before transporting him to a local hospital. Thankfully, doctors expect the young victim to make a full recovery from his injuries.
Police officers combed the area for evidence and found several 9mm shell casings scattered near the location where the shots were believed to have originated. Despite a detailed canvass of the neighborhood and interviews with residents, no suspect information has been confirmed at this time. Authorities believe the child was an unintended victim of the gunfire — a tragic example of how reckless acts can endanger innocent lives.
“This could have been so much worse,” said a Tulsa Police spokesperson. “We’re incredibly lucky that this child survived. But luck is not a strategy. We need the public’s help in identifying who did this before someone else gets hurt — or worse.”
The Tulsa Police Department is urging anyone who may have witnessed the shooting or who may have home surveillance footage from that night to come forward. Even small details could be critical in identifying a suspect or understanding what led to the gunfire.
