THOMPSON, Conn. (July 26, 2025) — A tragic crash on Saturday evening has claimed the life of a local man in Thompson following a collision between a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle. The Connecticut State Police have confirmed that 57-year-old Robert White, a resident of Thompson, was fatally injured in the accident.
The collision occurred just after 7:30 p.m. on Fabyan Road, near the intersection with Brickyard Road, a stretch of rural roadway that locals say is typically quiet but can be dangerous due to sharp curves and limited visibility in some areas.
According to the preliminary report from Connecticut State Police, White was riding his motorcycle northbound on Fabyan Road when a vehicle traveling southbound, driven by 44-year-old Anni Heikkila of Canterbury, collided with him. The circumstances surrounding how the crash occurred are still under investigation, including factors such as speed, visibility, and road conditions at the time of the impact.
Emergency crews from Putnam EMS arrived on the scene quickly and provided initial treatment to both individuals. Robert White was then rushed to Day Kimball Hospital, but despite efforts by medical staff, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival.
Heikkila was also transported to Day Kimball Hospital for evaluation of non-life-threatening injuries, according to officials.
Connecticut State Police have since launched a formal investigation into the crash. Members of Troop D, along with accident reconstruction teams, have been analyzing the scene and collecting witness statements to determine the exact sequence of events. Authorities have not yet commented on whether any charges will be filed.
In the meantime, police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the accident or has relevant information to come forward and contact Troop D at 860-779-4900.
The tragic loss of Robert White has left the Thompson community in mourning. Neighbors and friends described him as a hardworking man with a passion for riding motorcycles and a deep connection to his hometown.
“He loved to ride,” said a family friend. “It was his freedom, his peace. To hear that this is how his life ended — it’s just heartbreaking.”
This incident marks yet another fatality on Connecticut’s roads this summer and serves as a sobering reminder of the dangers that can arise, especially for motorcyclists, who remain among the most vulnerable users of the road.
As the investigation continues, the community is rallying around White’s family, offering condolences and support during what has become a devastating time. Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
