JUST IN: Mt. Vernon Police Identify Two Victims in Deadly Mass Shooting; One Arrest Made, Investigation Ongoing

MT. VERNON, Ill. — The Mt. Vernon Police Department has released the identities of the two men who were fatally shot during a mass shooting early this morning in the 600 block of South 15th Street. The tragic event has rocked the local community and left five additional individuals injured.

The victims have been identified as:

  • Zomarrius Williams, 20, of Mt. Vernon
  • Demonta Woodward, 26, of Mounds

According to police, both young men succumbed to injuries sustained during the shooting, which occurred during the early morning hours of Sunday, July 27, 2025. Emergency services were quickly dispatched to the scene after multiple 911 calls reported gunfire. Despite lifesaving efforts, both Williams and Woodward were pronounced dead.
