DETROIT, MI — A deadly shooting unfolded early Monday morning at a gas station on Detroit’s west side, claiming the life of one man and injuring three women in what police are describing as a targeted and isolated incident.
The Detroit Police Department responded to the scene shortly after the incident was reported near the intersection of Puritan Avenue and Fairfield Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered a man in his 30s lying unresponsive inside the gas station. Emergency responders confirmed that he had succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Three women—two in their 30s and one in her 20s—were also wounded in the gunfire. All three were transported to a nearby hospital. Their conditions have not been released at this time, but officials noted that they were conscious and receiving medical treatment.
Authorities have yet to identify the deceased man, and his name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. No additional information about the female victims has been made public.
Shooter Still at Large
As of Monday morning, the suspect remains at large. Investigators are actively reviewing surveillance footage from the gas station and nearby businesses in an effort to track the individual responsible. Police believe the shooter acted alone, and initial findings suggest the attack may have been premeditated.
“This appears to be an isolated incident and not a random act of violence,” said a spokesperson for the Detroit Police Department. “We are following several leads and urge anyone with information to come forward.”
No arrests have been made, and no firearm has been recovered at this point.

The shooting has sent shockwaves through the west side neighborhood, where residents say the gas station is typically busy with foot traffic, especially during early morning hours. Several people who live nearby reported hearing multiple gunshots ring out, followed by chaos as bystanders scrambled for cover.
“It’s heartbreaking,” said a local resident who asked not to be named. “We come to this gas station all the time—it’s just unbelievable that something like this would happen here.”

Detectives from the Detroit Police Homicide Unit are leading the investigation, and officers canvassed the area throughout the morning for witnesses and clues. Authorities are also asking members of the public who may have been in the vicinity or who have security footage of the area to contact law enforcement immediately.
