19-Year-Old Woman Shot in Back; Benton County Deputies Investigating as Suspect Remains at Large

BENTON COUNTY, WA – The Benton County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating the shooting of a 19-year-old female who was reportedly shot in the back under circumstances that remain unclear. Deputies were dispatched to the scene following a 911 call regarding the incident and, with the support of officers from the Prosser Police Department, were able to respond quickly to the reported location.

Upon arrival, law enforcement found the injured woman suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency medical personnel provided initial care at the scene, and the victim was transported via ambulance to a nearby hospital. She later underwent surgery for her injuries. At this time, her condition has not been publicly disclosed, but sources indicate she is expected to survive.

However, officials note that the victim was not cooperative with law enforcement officers during initial attempts to determine the circumstances of the shooting. Her reluctance to share information has complicated the early stages of the investigation.

Suspect Fled Scene Before First Responders Arrived

The male subject believed to have discharged the firearm fled the scene before deputies or EMS arrived, and his identity has not yet been confirmed. Additionally, several other occupants present at the scene were initially uncooperative, withholding critical details and declining to provide the name of the suspect or a full account of what occurred. This lack of cooperation has posed significant challenges for investigators attempting to piece together what led to the shooting.

Despite these difficulties, Benton County Sheriff’s Office Detectives responded to the scene shortly after the initial response and have taken over the case. They are working diligently to gather forensic evidence, interview witnesses, and develop leads that may lead to the identification and arrest of the suspect.

Public Urged to Come Forward with Information

The Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with information — no matter how small — to come forward. Individuals who may have been in the area at the time of the shooting or who have knowledge about the suspect or events leading up to the incident are asked to contact the Benton County Sheriff’s Office Detective Division.

“We understand the fear and hesitation some individuals may feel in coming forward, but the safety of our community depends on accountability and truth,” said a representative from the Benton County Sheriff’s Office. “Someone knows what happened, and we are asking them to do the right thing.”

At this time, no arrests have been made, and the name of the victim is being withheld for privacy and safety reasons. Investigators are pursuing all leads and remain hopeful that cooperation from the public will help resolve the case.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Benton County Sheriff’s Office non-emergency line at (509) 735-6555 or submit tips anonymously through Benton County Crime Stoppers.

As the investigation continues, law enforcement remains committed to ensuring justice is served and to holding accountable those responsible for endangering lives within the community.
