KINSTON, N.C – A Guilford County man has been arrested in connection with a drive-by shooting that shook a Kinston neighborhood earlier this month. Following a detailed investigation, 25-year-old Tyler Davis was taken into custody after turning himself in to authorities. The shooting, which occurred on July 10th, left a local man injured and a community rattled.
The incident unfolded in the early evening hours in the 1100 block of Ferndale Lane, a residential area in Kinston. According to police reports, gunshots were fired from a passing vehicle, striking the home of a 42-year-old man. Responding officers arrived to find the victim suffering from an arm injury caused by shattered glass. The man was quickly transported to ECU Health Medical Center for treatment. Fortunately, his injuries were non-life-threatening.
In the days that followed, detectives with the Kinston Police Department launched an intensive investigation, interviewing witnesses, collecting evidence, and reviewing surveillance footage from the area. Their efforts culminated in the identification of Tyler Davis, a resident of Guilford County, as the primary suspect.
On Monday, Davis voluntarily turned himself in to the Goldsboro Police Department. He was subsequently booked into the Wayne County Jail, where he is being held without bond.
Serious Charges Filed
Davis faces a series of serious felony charges in connection with the shooting, including:
•Attempted First-Degree Murder
•Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill
•Discharging a Weapon into Occupied Property
•Malicious Assault in Secret
•Injury to Personal Property
•Injury to Real Property
•Discharging a Firearm Within City Limits
These charges reflect both the gravity of the incident and the risk posed to the residents of Ferndale Lane that night. Police have not released a possible motive but have confirmed that the investigation remains active.
Community Response and Ongoing Investigation
The drive-by shooting sparked concern among residents, who say the neighborhood is generally quiet and safe. “It’s frightening to think something like this could happen here,” said one neighbor. “It could have been a lot worse if someone had been standing closer to the window or outside.”
The Kinston Police Department is continuing to investigate whether others may have been involved or if additional charges will be filed. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact the Kinston Police Department or Lenoir County Crime Stoppers.
A Call for Community Vigilance
Incidents like the one on Ferndale Lane highlight the need for community cooperation in preventing and responding to acts of violence. Local leaders have emphasized the importance of speaking up and providing information to law enforcement, even anonymously, to help keep neighborhoods safe.
As for Tyler Davis, his legal proceedings will unfold in the coming weeks as he awaits arraignment. If convicted on the charges against him, he could face decades in prison.
The Kinston Police Department thanked the public and their law enforcement partners in Goldsboro and Guilford County for their assistance in bringing the suspect into custody without incident.
As the investigation continues, residents remain hopeful for justice and a return to peace in their community.
