The city of New York is reeling from the devastating tragedy that unfolded on Monday evening at 345 Park Avenue in Midtown Manhattan. Among the four lives senselessly lost was Julia Hyman, a bright and promising 26-year-old professional who had already begun to leave her mark on the world of real estate and business.
Julia, a 2020 graduate of Cornell University, was employed as an associate at Rudin Management, a prestigious New York-based real estate firm that owns the Park Avenue high-rise where the attack took place. Described by colleagues and friends as intelligent, driven, and deeply kind-hearted, Julia’s sudden and violent passing has left a void not only in her professional circle but among all who knew and loved her.
A Life Taken Too Soon
According to multiple reports, including details published by the New York Post, the shooter—27-year-old Shane Tamura of Las Vegas—entered the building through the main lobby shortly after 5 p.m. Tamura, who was armed with a firearm, reportedly bypassed lower-level offices, including the NFL headquarters, which investigators believe may have been his intended target.
Instead, Tamura made his way to the 33rd floor, where Rudin Management’s offices are located. In a horrifying turn of events, he opened fire inside the suite, striking multiple individuals. Julia Hyman was among those critically injured and tragically pronounced dead shortly after the incident.
The shooter later died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Authorities are still working to understand his motives, but have ruled out any prior personal connection between Tamura and the victims.
