HOKE COUNTY, NC — More than three years have passed since the tragic and senseless killing of Ramonte Pagan, and yet, his loved ones and the Hoke County Sheriff’s Office remain steadfast in their quest for justice.
On the morning of Sunday, July 24, 2022, at approximately 10:57 a.m., deputies and emergency personnel with the Hoke County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the 100 block of Franklin Drive in reference to a cardiac arrest call. What first appeared to be a medical emergency quickly unfolded into a homicide investigation when first responders discovered a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound.
The victim, later identified as Ramonte Pagan, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives with the Hoke County Criminal Investigation Division immediately launched a comprehensive investigation, combing through evidence, speaking with neighbors, and reviewing possible leads. Despite their efforts, the case remains unsolved, and Pagan’s killer has yet to be brought to justice.

The pain of losing Ramonte continues to reverberate through the Pagan and McLean families, who have spent over three years waiting for closure. Ramonte was known by many in the community and described by those who loved him as a kind-hearted and loyal individual with a future that was taken far too soon.
