DYER COUNTY, TN – July 29, 2025 — The Dyer County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s urgent assistance following a deeply troubling incident involving an abandoned infant left on a resident’s property in the Tigrett area.
At approximately 3:11 PM on Tuesday, July 29, dispatchers received a 911 call from a concerned citizen reporting that an infant in a car seat had been left in their front yard on Old Highway 20. The child was reportedly dropped off by someone driving either a dark-colored minivan or a white mid-size SUV. The vehicle left the scene immediately after placing the car seat on the property.
Thankfully, a witness quickly discovered the car seat and child, immediately called 911, and stayed with the infant until emergency responders arrived.
Emergency Response and Investigation
Medical Center EMS and the Crockett County Ambulance Service arrived promptly and evaluated the infant on scene. The child appeared to be stable and unharmed, thanks in large part to the quick response of the witness and paramedics.
In a powerful image shared with permission, the infant can be seen safely cradled in the arms of a compassionate paramedic—a reminder of the dedication and care provided by first responders during critical moments like this.
The Dyer County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with the Crockett County Sheriff’s Office and the Tennessee Highway Patrol, has launched a multi-agency investigation to identify the child and determine who is responsible for leaving them in such a dangerous and unlawful manner.
Authorities have stated that details remain limited at this time, as the investigation is in its early stages. The safety of the infant remains the top priority, and efforts are underway to ensure the child receives appropriate care and protection.

Investigators are especially interested in speaking with anyone who may have seen a dark-colored minivan or white mid-size SUV in the Old Highway 20 / Tigrett area around the time of the incident. Even seemingly minor details—such as surveillance footage, dashcam video, or descriptions of suspicious vehicles—could prove critical to the case.
