OUACHITA COUNTY, AR – The heartbreaking search for 18-year-old Brayden Roberson has ended in tragedy. After days of exhaustive, around-the-clock search efforts by multiple agencies, the Ouachita County Sheriff’s Department has confirmed that Roberson’s remains were discovered in a wooded area near Norphlet in neighboring Union County. He had been missing since the evening of Thursday, July 24, 2025, when he reportedly left home to meet with an ex-girlfriend to talk about their relationship.
Following the discovery, investigators announced the arrest of three individuals believed to be responsible for Roberson’s death. Melanie Pipkin, Bryson Vaughn, and Cameron Hildebrand have each been charged with Capital Murder and Tampering with Physical Evidence. Hildebrand faces an additional charge of Hindering Apprehension or Prosecution. All three have been booked into the Ouachita County Detention Center and are currently awaiting arraignment.
A Timeline of the Investigation
Brayden’s disappearance quickly raised alarms among family and friends. The Roberson family, relentless in their efforts, reported him missing shortly after he failed to return home Thursday night. According to the Ouachita County Sheriff’s Department, Roberson’s last known contact was with his former girlfriend. Law enforcement began an immediate investigation, joined by the Camden Police Department and the Arkansas State Police.
Investigators conducted multiple interviews with persons of interest and eventually honed in on the suspects. Authorities were able to determine the location of a violent altercation through forensic evidence collected at the scene. That critical information led search teams to a remote wooded area in Union County, where they ultimately located Roberson’s body on Monday, July 28.
The remains have been sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for official identification and autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. The investigation remains ongoing, and officials say additional charges or arrests are possible as more information comes to light.
