LOS ANGELES, CA —A tranquil afternoon in the quiet neighborhood of Granada Hills was shattered Monday when gunfire erupted at a home-based daycare, prompting a swift and intense response from the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) and emergency medical teams. The incident left two women injured by gunfire and raised serious concerns as 17 children were inside the home at the time.
Shooting Unfolds at Licensed Daycare
At approximately 12:30 p.m. on July 28, 2025, LAPD officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 17300 block of Firma Court in Granada Hills. Upon arrival, officers discovered a chaotic scene at a residential property that had been operating as a licensed daycare center.
Emergency medical personnel from the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) arrived shortly after and began treating two adult female victims on site.
- One woman suffered a gunshot wound to the arm.
- The second woman was shot in the back, a more serious injury that required immediate hospital care.
Both women were transported to a nearby hospital, though their identities and current conditions have not been disclosed as of this report.
Children Safe, No Injuries Reported Among Minors
In a tremendous relief to the community, LAPD officials confirmed that none of the 17 children inside the daycare were harmed. Officers conducted a rapid and thorough search of the premises to ensure all children were safely accounted for and shielded from the violence that unfolded just feet away.
“Our first priority was the safety of the children,” said an LAPD spokesperson. “Thankfully, none were physically injured, and we have taken measures to reunite them with their families.”
LAPD and LAFD personnel remained at the scene for hours to provide medical care, secure the area, and begin the investigative process.
Suspect Apprehended After Fleeing the Scene
The suspected gunman fled the scene immediately after the shooting, prompting a rapid search by law enforcement. A short time later, officers located and arrested the suspect near the intersection of Balboa Boulevard and Sherman Way — several miles from the site of the incident.
Details about the suspect’s identity, motive, and relationship to the victims are currently being withheld pending further investigation. However, authorities believe this was a targeted act of violence and not a random attack.
“At this time, there is no indication that the children were the intended targets,” said an LAPD detective on scene. “This appears to be a personal dispute that tragically unfolded in a childcare setting.”
Investigation Ongoing
Crime scene investigators, detectives, and forensic teams were seen canvassing the area, collecting evidence, and interviewing witnesses late into the evening. The LAPD has not yet released the names of the victims or the suspect and continues to investigate the motive behind the shooting.
Neighbors expressed shock and concern, with many saying they were unaware that the residence also operated as a daycare.
“You never think something like this would happen here, especially not at a daycare,” said one local resident. “It’s terrifying.”
Community Response and Support
As the investigation continues, local officials and family services are stepping in to support the affected children and families, many of whom were left shaken by the day’s events.
Anyone with information related to the shooting is urged to contact the LAPD’s Devonshire Division or submit tips anonymously via LA Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
