BATON ROUGE, LA – A tragic accident early Tuesday morning has claimed the life of Travis Weams, age 48, whose identity was confirmed later that day by the East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner’s Office. Weams was fatally struck by a garbage truck while in the southbound lanes of Airline Highway, near the state fairgrounds, in a devastating incident that brought traffic to a halt for hours.
The collision occurred during the early morning hours, and multiple emergency agencies quickly responded, including personnel from the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office, the St. George Fire Department, and the Louisiana State Police.
