U.S. Marshals Apprehend Homicide Suspect Tyler D. Skerett in Chicagoland Area

STREATOR, IL – After more than three months on the run, Tyler D. Skerett, wanted in connection with a deadly shooting in Streator, has been apprehended. On Monday, July 28, 2025, members of the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force located and arrested Skerett in the Chicagoland area, bringing a critical break to a case that has deeply impacted the community.

The arrest stems from a homicide that occurred on April 20, 2025, when officers from the Streator Police Department responded to a report of gunshots at the intersection of Main Street and Sterling Street. Upon arrival, they found the scene empty but soon learned that a vehicle containing three gunshot victims had arrived at OSF Hospital in Streator.

Among the occupants was a 17-year-old juvenile who had sustained fatal injuries. The teen was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at the hospital. Two other occupants were treated for serious gunshot wounds. The shooting prompted a large-scale investigation involving multiple agencies and law enforcement jurisdictions.

Through extensive investigative efforts, Skerett was identified as the primary suspect. Authorities filed multiple felony charges against him, including:

  • Murder
  • Attempted Murder
  • Aggravated Battery
  • Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm
  • Armed Habitual Criminal

A warrant was subsequently issued for Skerett’s arrest, and he was listed as a wanted fugitive. Law enforcement agencies across the state worked collaboratively to locate him, culminating in his arrest on July 28. After his capture, Skerett was transported to the LaSalle County Jail, where he remains in custody pending a detention hearing.

Authorities emphasized that Tyler D. Skerett is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

We are grateful for the collaboration that made this possible.”
