According to the Atlanta Police Department, Barry was involved in an altercation with an unidentified individual on the shoulder of the Downtown Connector. The argument reportedly escalated into a physical confrontation, and at some point, Barry tragically fell—or was pushed—into the active roadway.
Moments later, he was struck by a white or light-colored sedan. While the driver did stop briefly after the impact, they ultimately fled the scene before officers arrived. The individual who had been engaged in the argument with Barry had also left the area, further complicating efforts to determine the full chain of events.
Responding to multiple calls reporting a body in the roadway, law enforcement rushed to the scene, closing several lanes of the interstate to begin their investigation.
