In Loving Memory of Kyla Henderson and Aubree Edney A Community Mourns Two Bright and Beautiful Lives Lost Too Soon

Henderson Independent School District (HISD) is mourning alongside the entire community following the heartbreaking loss of two young lives in a devastating car accident on July 28, 2025. Tragically, Kyla Henderson, a former HISD student, and Aubree Edney, who was set to begin sixth grade this fall, both passed away in the crash.

There are simply no words strong enough to capture the grief and sorrow felt throughout our schools, our neighborhoods, and our hearts. These two remarkable young individuals were loved deeply by family, friends, and the greater Henderson community. Their absence will be felt profoundly by all who had the joy and privilege of knowing them.

Kyla Henderson, remembered for her vibrant spirit, kind heart, and enduring friendships, was a former HISD student who left a lasting impression on those she encountered. Her smile was unforgettable — a light in the lives of many — and her compassion and joyful nature left a legacy far greater than her years. Though she had moved on from our halls, she remained a cherished part of the HISD family.

Aubree Edney, just at the doorstep of a new academic journey, was filled with promise, curiosity, and joy. She was preparing to enter sixth grade this fall, and her excitement for learning and laughter brightened the lives of teachers, classmates, and everyone around her. The loss of such a young, radiant soul is beyond heartbreaking.

In the wake of this tragedy, our hearts go out to the Henderson and Edney families. We know there is no greater pain than the loss of a child. We stand with you in sorrow, and we honor Kyla and Aubree’s memories with love, respect, and a commitment to supporting those they leave behind.

Although our campuses are currently operating on summer schedules, we understand that news of this kind is deeply affecting for our students, staff, and families. In response, grief counseling and emotional support services are available to anyone in need. We urge members of the HISD family — both students and staff — to reach out if they are struggling. No one should walk through this grief alone.

In times like these, our strength as a community lies in our willingness to come together, to grieve together, and to remember together. As we continue to process this tremendous loss, we hold onto the love and memories that Kyla and Aubree brought into the world. Their lives, though brief, were bright — and their impact will never be forgotten.

We ask everyone to keep the Henderson and Edney families in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate unimaginable grief. Let us continue to uplift one another, honor the memory of these two beautiful girls, and show compassion in the days ahead.

May Kyla and Aubree rest in peace, and may their light continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew them.

Forever in our hearts.
Always remembered. Never forgotten.
