It is with unimaginable sorrow and shattered hearts that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Steven, known lovingly by so many as The Vegan Bay Baker. His passing has left an indescribable void in our lives—a void that cannot be filled. Our beloved Steve was not just the face behind our business; he was its soul, its spark, and the gentle force that guided every moment of love, care, and dedication that we poured into our work.
Steven leaves behind me, his heartbroken wife, and our three beautiful children—Lilly, Phoebe, and Paddy, who adored their daddy beyond words. He also leaves his devoted parents, who are struggling to come to terms with this unbearable loss. To say we are devastated would be an understatement. The pain is like nothing I have ever known. I am utterly broken.
Steve and I started Vegan Bay Baker together in our own kitchen, driven by a shared love for plant-based living and a dream to bring joy and kindness through food. What began as a humble passion project grew into something so much bigger—thanks in large part to Steve’s warmth, humor, talent, and tireless work ethic. Many of you who knew Steve personally, or came to know him through our business, saw what a bright light he was. His laughter, his kindness, and his generous spirit made an impression on every person he met.
Following Steve’s death, our business has ceased trading. At this moment, I need to turn inward to grieve, to hold my children close, and to begin to process this immense loss. I ask for your respect, privacy, and understanding as our family navigates this incredibly painful chapter of our lives. I also want to extend a heartfelt thank you to every single person who has already reached out with messages of love and support—it means more than you know.
Steven was my soulmate, my best friend, and my entire world. We spent 15 beautiful years together, building a life, a family, and a dream. The love we shared was something truly special, and I will carry it with me always. I still cannot believe he is gone. We already miss him more than words can possibly say.
To those who knew Steve—whether from our little bakery, from the local community, or from a brief interaction over a warm loaf of sourdough or a sweet vegan treat—please know how much he valued each and every one of you. He genuinely loved what he did, and that passion lives on in all the memories, flavors, and friendships he created.
Funeral details will be shared in due course, once we are able to take the next steps together as a family. For now, I simply ask that you hold us in your thoughts—especially our children—as we try to move forward one day at a time.
