New Orleans, LA – July 31, 2025 — A tragic incident on Interstate 10 has led to the arrest of a 20-year-old Slidell man, Dyllan Parr, in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of a 53-year-old woman. According to the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD), Parr turned himself in on Wednesday, July 30, just days after the deadly collision.
The fatal crash occurred on Sunday, July 27, at approximately 9:53 p.m., on I-10 East near Read Boulevard. Authorities say the victim had been driving a Mazda 626 and had stopped in the roadway due to mechanical failure when she was suddenly and violently struck from behind by a Mercedes Benz—later identified as being driven by Parr.
According to the preliminary report from the NOPD, the force of the impact caused the Mercedes to become airborne, eventually colliding with a nearby concrete guardrail. Despite the devastating crash, Parr allegedly fled the scene on foot, abandoning the wrecked vehicle and leaving behind a scene of chaos and tragedy.
Emergency responders arriving at the scene found the woman critically injured. Despite attempts to save her life, she succumbed to her injuries, marking yet another fatality on Louisiana roadways linked to reckless and negligent driving.
Arrest and Charges
Dyllan Parr, accompanied by legal counsel, surrendered to the NOPD without incident and was booked into the Orleans Justice Center. Following his arrest, Parr was charged with hit-and-run resulting in serious injury or death—a serious felony under Louisiana law. During a subsequent interview with investigators, authorities reported that Parr allegedly admitted to striking the Mazda and fleeing the scene, further solidifying the case against him.
The NOPD’s Hit & Run Unit is leading the ongoing investigation and is working to determine if additional charges may be warranted. Toxicology reports, vehicle data, and witness statements are all being reviewed as part of the broader investigation.
Community Response and Appeal for Information
The fatal hit-and-run has sent ripples of sorrow and frustration through the community, particularly among those who have lost loved ones to preventable traffic incidents. The victim’s identity has not yet been released pending family notification, but she is remembered by neighbors and friends as a kind and hard-working woman whose life ended far too soon.
Police are asking anyone with additional information, including potential witnesses or those who may have dashcam footage from that area and time, to contact the NOPD Hit & Run Unit at (504) 658-6210. Tips may also be submitted anonymously to Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
Road Safety in Focus
This incident has once again spotlighted the growing concerns over reckless driving, high-speed collisions, and the alarming rate of hit-and-run accidents across the state. Officials continue to urge drivers to maintain safe speeds, remain attentive, and most importantly, take responsibility in the event of a collision.
Leaving the scene of an accident is not only illegal, but it also delays critical emergency response, often costing lives. The New Orleans Police Department has reiterated its zero-tolerance policy toward hit-and-run offenses and vows to pursue justice for victims.
As the investigation continues and Parr awaits legal proceedings, the community remains in mourning for the life lost and united in the call for safer roads and greater accountability.
