ALBERTVILLE, AL – The Marshall County Coroner’s Office confirms the tragic death of a local motorcyclist following a two-vehicle collision on Thursday afternoon. At approximately 12:20 p.m. on July 31, 2025, emergency personnel were dispatched to the 3500 block of U.S. Highway 431 in Albertville, where a motor vehicle crash (MVC) involving a car and a motorcycle had occurred.
Upon arrival, Coroner Cody Nugent pronounced the motorcyclist, Charles Baker, 71, of Grant, Alabama, deceased at the scene. The crash resulted in severe trauma, and despite immediate response efforts by EMS and first responders, Mr. Baker could not be revived.
The details surrounding the cause of the collision remain under investigation by the Albertville Police Department. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the other driver involved or indicated whether any additional injuries occurred. At this time, no charges or citations have been announced, and investigators are working to determine the circumstances that led to the deadly incident.
Mr. Baker, a longtime resident of Grant, was known in his community as a dedicated family man and motorcycle enthusiast. Friends describe him as kindhearted, active, and someone who loved the open road. His sudden loss has deeply affected loved ones and the wider Grant community.
Traffic in the area of the crash was temporarily redirected as emergency crews processed the scene and cleared the roadway. Motorists were advised to seek alternate routes during the investigation, which caused delays along a busy stretch of U.S. 431.
Statement from Coroner Cody Nugent
“This is a tragic loss of life, and our thoughts and condolences are with Mr. Baker’s family and friends,” said Coroner Cody Nugent. “We are working closely with the Albertville Police Department as they continue to investigate the events that led to this fatal crash.”
The Marshall County Coroner’s Office will coordinate with the family to make final arrangements, and an autopsy may be conducted as part of standard procedure in fatal traffic accidents.
Further information will be released as it becomes available through official channels. Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has relevant information is encouraged to contact the Albertville Police Department.
