SHOOTING INCIDENT IN MIDDLE CITY COMMUNITY UNDER INVESTIGATION

DYER COUNTY, TN — The Dyer County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating a domestic-related shooting that occurred on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at approximately 1:00 p.m. in the Middle City Community near Lyte Circle, located just west of Dyersburg. The incident involved Makayla Thompson, a 19-year-old female who was critically injured, and Craig Bolden, a 19-year-old Black male who has been identified as the suspect.

Upon arrival, they discovered a 19-year-old female victim, identified as Makayla Thompson, suffering from a gunshot wound. She was listed in critical condition and was airlifted from the scene to a Level One Trauma Center for immediate medical treatment.

Authorities confirmed that witnesses were present inside the home during the incident. Investigators are continuing to gather evidence and interview those involved. The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges may be filed as more details emerge.

Clarification on Unrelated Incident

Sheriff Box emphasized that this shooting is not connected to the ongoing quadruple homicide investigation in Lake County involving suspect Austin Robert Drummond, who remains the subject of an active manhunt.

“This is a sad and deeply troubling day for the victim and her family,” said Sheriff Jeff Box. “We are committed to ensuring a fair and thorough investigation into what appears to be a tragic domestic violence incident. Our thoughts and prayers are with Makayla Thompson and her loved ones as she bravely fights for her life.”
