Third Homicide of 2025 Under Investigation in Prince Albert; Victim Identified as 39-Year-Old Wayne Keller

PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. – The city of Prince Albert is grappling with its third confirmed homicide of 2025, as the Prince Albert Police Service Major Crimes Unit (MCU) continues to investigate the suspicious death of a man found earlier this week in a quiet residential neighborhood.

Authorities have identified the victim as 39-year-old Wayne Keller, a resident of Prince Albert. His body was discovered on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, after police were dispatched to the 1500 block of 5th Avenue East at approximately 3:30 p.m., following a report of an unresponsive male.

Upon arrival, first responding officers and EMS personnel located the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The immediate area was secured, and investigators began treating the case as a homicide following preliminary observations and forensic assessments.

The Major Crimes Unit quickly took over the investigation, working alongside patrol members, forensic specialists, and the coroner’s office to gather evidence and determine the circumstances leading to Keller’s death. No arrests have been made as of this publication, and the police have not released details regarding potential suspects or motives.

Community Shocked by Ongoing Violence

News of Wayne Keller’s death has stirred concern and sorrow within the Prince Albert community, already shaken by two previous homicides earlier this year. Friends and neighbors described Keller as a quiet, hardworking individual who largely kept to himself.

“I can’t believe this happened just down the street,” one local resident told media outlets. “It’s scary to think something like this could happen in broad daylight, in our neighborhood.”

As investigators canvass the area for surveillance footage and potential witnesses, residents are being urged to report anything suspicious they may have seen in the area during the afternoon of July 29.

Police Statement and Appeal to the Public

In a formal statement released Wednesday, the Prince Albert Police Service expressed condolences to the victim’s family and reaffirmed their commitment to solving the case.

“This is a tragic and serious matter. We understand the community is concerned, and we want to assure the public that our Major Crimes Unit is fully engaged in this investigation,” said a spokesperson for the police service. “We are following up on multiple leads and ask that anyone with information, no matter how small, come forward.”

Anyone who may have been in the 1500 block of 5th Avenue East around 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 29, or who may have surveillance or dashcam footage from the area, is asked to contact police immediately.
