Aurora, CO – August 1, 2025 — The Aurora Police Department (APD) is actively investigating a shooting incident that occurred late Thursday night at the Anschutz Medical Campus, prompting a swift response and a secure lockdown of the area.
At approximately 10:15 p.m., Aurora Police officers responded to a call for assistance from the University of Colorado Police Department (CUPD) after a report of shots fired in a parking garage near Children’s Way and Colfax Avenue—an area close to Children’s Hospital Colorado and UCHealth University of Colorado Hospital.
Upon arrival, officers quickly secured the area and began searching for the suspect. APD has since confirmed that a suspect was taken into custody following a brief pursuit within the medical campus. Authorities noted that the chase remained on campus property and did not spill into surrounding neighborhoods.
Thankfully, no injuries have been reported to law enforcement personnel or community members. There has been no confirmed information yet regarding any victims or the motive behind the shooting, and authorities are urging the public to remain calm as the investigation continues.
Aurora Police released a statement late Thursday night:
“We want to assure the public that there is no ongoing threat to the Anschutz Medical Campus or surrounding area. A suspect has been apprehended, and officers are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding this shooting.”
The Anschutz Medical Campus, a major hub for medical research, education, and treatment in Colorado, houses several hospitals and educational institutions. Out of an abundance of caution, some areas of the campus were temporarily restricted during the investigation, but normal operations are expected to resume shortly.
Crime scene investigators and detectives are currently reviewing surveillance footage and conducting interviews with witnesses who may have seen the events unfold in or around the parking structure.
APD is asking anyone who may have witnessed the shooting or has any information about the incident to contact their non-emergency tip line or submit information anonymously to Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-STOP (7867).
This is a developing story. Further updates will be released as more details become available. #AuroraPD #Anschutz #ColoradoNews #CrimeAlert #PublicSafety
