Laurel County, KY — A tragic three-vehicle crash in the early hours of Friday, August 1, 2025, has resulted in the death of a Corbin woman and serious legal consequences for another driver. Laurel County Sheriff John Root confirmed that 55-year-old Kimberly Hedrick of Laurel County has been charged with vehicular homicide while under the influence of alcohol following the fatal incident.
The crash occurred around 12:00 a.m. on American Greeting Card Road, approximately 11 miles south of London, Kentucky. The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Unit, led by Detective Brad Mink, responded to the scene and launched a detailed investigation into the deadly collision.
According to initial findings, Kimberly Hedrick was operating a Chevrolet Tahoe southbound when her vehicle crossed the centerline on a curve, crashing head-on into a Chevrolet Aveo traveling in the opposite direction. The Aveo was driven by 55-year-old Benita Vickers of Corbin, who sustained critical injuries in the collision.
The impact was so severe that the Tahoe continued moving and struck a Hyundai SUV, allegedly driven by 39-year-old David N. Wynn, also of Corbin. After the second impact, Hedrick’s Tahoe reportedly went airborne, eventually landing on a guardrail. The Aveo and Hyundai came to rest in the roadway, blocking traffic and prompting a full emergency response.
Benita Vickers was transported by Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County to Baptist Health Corbin, where she was pronounced deceased by Whitley County Coroner Andy Croley. A male passenger in Vickers’ vehicle was also injured and taken to Baptist Regional Medical Center (BRMC) for treatment. His identity and current condition have not yet been released.
Meanwhile, David Wynn, the alleged driver of the Hyundai SUV, fled the scene before deputies arrived. Two female passengers in his vehicle were transported to BRMC for possible treatment. Authorities have since confirmed that Wynn is wanted on an outstanding warrant and are actively working to locate him. Wynn is described as 39 years old, with a last known address on Meadowbrook Road in London. A photo of Wynn has been released to aid in the search.
Kimberly Hedrick was taken to St. Joseph Hospital in London, where she was treated and released for minor injuries. During the initial contact, investigators reported detecting a strong odor of alcohol on her breath, along with slurred speech, both indicators of impairment. She was subsequently arrested and lodged at the Laurel County Correctional Center on a vehicular homicide charge related to driving under the influence.
Sheriff Root emphasized the severity of the incident:
“This tragic crash resulted in the unnecessary loss of life, and our department is committed to holding those responsible accountable.”
