It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we share the passing of a beloved Phoenix Early Learning Center Family staff member, Mia Sims. Her unexpected departure has left an immeasurable void in our school community, one that is deeply felt by students, families, and staff alike. Mia was more than a colleague—she was a friend, a mentor, a joyful spirit, and a guiding light to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Mia’s love for children radiated through everything she did. Her warm smile, gentle voice, and caring heart created an environment where every child felt seen, safe, and cherished. Whether she was tying shoes, wiping away tears, or celebrating small victories with the little ones she loved so dearly, Mia’s kindness was ever-present. Her impact on our students went far beyond the classroom—she helped nurture their sense of self-worth, inspired their growth, and showed them what it means to be truly cared for.
To honor Mia’s memory and celebrate the beautiful legacy she leaves behind, a special bulletin board has been lovingly created in our hallway. It stands as a space of remembrance and reflection—decorated with photos, artwork, and messages from those whose lives she touched. We are also deeply moved to share that we will be planting a tree on our playground, a living tribute to Mia’s enduring presence in our hearts and our school. Just as she helped our children grow with love and patience, this tree will grow tall and strong, rooted in the same spirit of compassion that Mia embodied each day.
We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the parent who graciously helped design and create this meaningful tribute. Your support and creativity have helped provide a place for our community to honor, grieve, and celebrate a life that gave so much to so many.
The hallways of our school are quieter now. The warmth of Mia’s presence, the spark in her laughter, and the comfort of her steady kindness are profoundly missed. There are moments when we still expect to see her cheerful wave or hear her singing with the children. Her absence is felt in every corner—but so is her love.
As we move forward, we carry Mia’s memory with us. We carry it in the laughter of the children she adored, in the relationships she nurtured, and in the kindness we continue to show one another in her honor. She leaves behind a legacy of love, empathy, and service that we will strive to live up to every day.
Mia, thank you for the joy, the care, and the grace you brought into our lives. You are deeply missed, and you will never be forgotten. Rest peacefully, knowing that your love lives on in every child’s smile, in every caring gesture, and in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to know you.
With deepest love and remembrance,
Your School Family
