MOBILE, Ala. – On the night of Wednesday, July 30, 2025, a tragic shooting claimed the life of 55-year-old Michael Flores, Sr. in what authorities are describing as a violent and senseless act. Officers with the Mobile Police Department responded to a report of an assault shortly after 11:12 p.m. in the 4700 block of Calhoun Road.
When officers arrived on scene, they found Michael Flores, Sr. inside the residence suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. He was immediately transported to a local hospital but tragically succumbed to his injuries a short time later.
Following an investigation, police arrested 19-year-old Cody Speese, who has now been charged with murder in connection to Flores’ death. Speese is also facing an additional charge of retail theft of property in the third degree. Investigators have not disclosed what may have led to the shooting or whether there was any prior connection between Flores and Speese.
The news of Flores’ death has left family members, friends, and community members in shock. He is remembered as a devoted father, grandfather, and neighbor whose loss will leave a lasting void in the lives of those who knew him.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting. In the meantime, Cody Speese remains in custody, and officials are urging anyone with further information about the case to come forward.
