Just before 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 1, 2025, the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office received urgent reports of a shooting incident in the 12000 block of SE Easthampton Street, located in unincorporated Clackamas County near the Happy Valley area. The initial call to dispatch came from a woman who reported that her husband had been shot inside their home.

Deputies arrived promptly at the scene and found a man, later identified as 72-year-old David Lynn Jurgenson, standing outside the residence. Based on the evidence and circumstances observed, deputies had reason to believe that Mr. Jurgenson was the individual responsible for the shooting. Law enforcement officers were able to safely take Mr. Jurgenson into custody without incident, ensuring the safety of everyone involved.

In addition to securing the suspect, deputies safely assisted a woman and her small child out of the home. Inside the residence, deputies discovered the victim—a 36-year-old man—in the living room. He was suffering from at least one gunshot wound to the chest.

Deputies immediately began administering emergency medical aid while waiting for emergency medical services to arrive. Upon arrival, EMS crews took over life-saving efforts; however, despite their best efforts, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased a short time later at the scene.

Detectives were promptly called to the location to begin a thorough investigation. Early indications from the investigation suggest that the suspect and the victim were known to each other, though the exact nature of their relationship has not yet been confirmed. The investigation remains active and ongoing as detectives continue to gather evidence, interview witnesses, and piece together the events leading up to the shooting.

David Lynn Jurgenson was formally booked into the Clackamas County Jail without bail on charges of Murder in the Second Degree and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.
